Success Story: WACKER & Nordmann Partnership

Interview series – Part 5: A Look at Austria

Technical expertise, close coordination, and a strong international network—these are the key factors behind the success of the partnership between WACKER and Nordmann in Austria. Since the launch of their strategic partnership in the silicone elastomers sector in April 2025, their presence in European markets has continued to grow.

In our interview series, colleagues from various countries share insights into their experiences, market trends, and joint successes. After stops in France, Italy, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, the focus now turns to Austria. Nordmann News spoke with Dr. Barbara Dellago, Technical Sales and Product Manager for Plastics & Rubber at Nordmann Austria.

1. What applications are currently driving the silicone business in Austria?

Barbara: The Austrian market is seeing high demand for versatile silicone elastomers—particularly in the area of liquid silicone rubber (LSR), but also for HCR and RTV systems.

A key focus is on LSR applications in the automotive industry and the electronics sector. Here, silicones are used, for example, as seals or functional components. Self-adhesive LSR types such as ELASTOSIL® LR 3070 and ELASTOSIL® LR 3072 are in particularly high demand, as they provide excellent adhesion to various thermoplastics and metals—a decisive advantage for efficient manufacturing processes.

2. How would you describe the collaboration—both internationally within Nordmann and in the partnership with WACKER?

Barbara: Nordmann’s strong international network enables close cross-border collaboration, with teams readily supporting one another through shared knowledge and materials in a pragmatic and solution-driven way.

At the same time, the exchange with WACKER is very open and trusting. Both sides actively contribute their deep market understanding and long-standing expertise, thereby creating a strong foundation for joint developments.

This cohesion is also evident in day-to-day business: for example, through rapid sample provision, close coordination on projects, and joint customer visits. The partnership with WACKER is characterized by a very personal approach—and the clear goal of continuing to grow together.

3. What opportunities do you see for future development?

Barbara: There is great potential in the combination of silicone elastomer and plastics expertise within Nordmann. This synergy opens up attractive opportunities in the field of 2K injection molding (two-component injection molding).

Thanks to the close integration of the teams—and in some cases also due to individual dual expertise in sales—we can specifically tap into new applications and customer projects.

Examples of this include:

  • Automotive: Connectors with integrated seals
  • Consumer goods: Ergonomic, functional handle solutions

At the same time, demand is growing in the field of high-voltage insulation, which opens up additional market opportunities.

4. Would you like to conclude our interview with a quote?

Barbara: For me, the partnership with WACKER is characterized by a very personal, almost family-like exchange. We pool our expertise and develop solutions together—quickly, flexibly, and always with the customer in mind. This collaboration makes all the difference.

A sentiment that is also reflected in a well-known quote:

“Talent wins games, but team spirit and intelligence win championships.”

– Michael Jordan
