Interview series – Part 2: A look at Italy

In April 2025, Nordmann and WACKER launched their strategic partnership in the field of silicone elastomers. Since then, many projects have been launched across Europe. For Nordmann and WACKER, it's not just about projects and products, but about people, ideas, and shared values. The DNA of both companies is a perfect match: innovative strength, expertise, and the will to create solutions for the future.

 

In a new series of interviews, we talk to colleagues from different countries about their experiences, successes and market observations. France kicked things off. Now, Nordmann News spoke with Roberto Vicinanza, Technical Sales & Product Manager at Nordmann Italy, about the response in the Italian market.

1. Roberto, what makes working with WACKER special for you?

 

Roberto: Quite clearly: the people. It is the individuals involved on both sides who make the difference. When we get together—often over coffee—ideas emerge that help us move forward. For me, this personal level is at the heart of the partnership. A great example of this was our participation in the Oktoberfest in Munich a few years ago: seeing WACKER technicians dressed in traditional costumes not only put everyone in a good mood, but also showed how much value the company places on its culture. 

 

At the same time, I am impressed by how consciously WACKER deals with its own history – in Burghausen, you can still see the first building where it all began. And we at Nordmann – founded in 1912 – are also aware of how important strong roots are for the future of the company. Perhaps that is why we harmonize so well. 

2. How long has the partnership been in place, and what developments have you been most excited about recently?

 

Roberto: We have been working with WACKER in Italy for almost 30 years – initially very successfully with RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanizing) silicones, which can be used in all areas of the automotive, electronics, printing and molding industries. Since expanding our partnership in April 2025, our product portfolio has grown significantly – opening up almost unlimited possibilities for us. 

 

Today, together with WACKER, we cover everything the world of silicone elastomers needs: 

  • LSR (liquid silicone rubber)
  • HCR (high consistency rubber)
  • Additives
  • Compounds

 

From ELASTOSIL® and SILPURAN® to POWERSIL®. 

 

For me, 2025 was therefore a year full of innovations. I was particularly impressed by new materials such as the ELASTOSIL® LR 5040 series for baby care and food applications, and the ELASTOSIL® LR 3066 series for applications with low friction coefficients. Projects in the field of wearable sensors with ELASTOSIL® LR 3162, ELASTOSIL® films, and Nexipal films are also exciting. And I am convinced that the textile sector—with coatings, artificial leather, airbags, and conveyor belts—will bring us great success in 2026. 

 

HCR is, of course, also a central component of our portfolio: These high-viscosity silicones are indispensable for applications that require extreme mechanical stress and high temperatures. We offer excellent raw materials and additives that help silicone compounders produce customized and competitive materials. In combination with our compounds, we can develop individual solutions for customers – with exactly the properties their applications require. 

3. How do you see the future of the partnership?

 

Roberto: Very positive. WACKER shows strong commitment to Europe and continuously invests in the location. That gives us security and a basis for further growth. Together, we can offer our customers everything they need for innovative silicone solutions. 

 

And you only need to look at the slogans of our two companies: WACKER's slogan, “Creating Tomorrow's Solutions,” meets Nordmann's slogan, “Knowledge in action,” with regional strength and customer proximity – together they add up to:
