Nordmann Industries Coatings & Inks FAQs Coatings & Inks
What types of raw materials do you supply for coatings and inks?

Nordmann offers an extensive and sophisticated portfolio designed to meet the full spectrum of requirements within the coatings industry, irrespective of the final application. The range encompasses a broad selection of binders and resins—including acrylic, alkyd, polyurethane, epoxy, and UV/EB oligomers—alongside a comprehensive suite of additives such as defoamers, dispersants, wetting agents, rheology modifiers, slip and mar agents, matting agents all of which support both manufacturing efficiency and end‑use performance. The portfolio further includes pigments and pigment preparations, functional fillers, solvents and coalescent, waxes, curing agents, and a variety of specialty intermediates, ensuring a complete and reliable supply offering for customers.

Which application areas do you serve in the Coatings & Inks industry?

Nordmann supplies raw materials to manufacturers that produce a broad range of end products including architectural and decorative paints; industrial and protective coatings for metal, marine, coil, and can applications; wood coatings; automotive refinish and OEM coatings; powder coatings; and printing inks for flexographic, gravure, offset, and digital/inkjet technologies across water‑based, solvent‑based, and UV/EB systems.

How do you ensure product quality and batch-to-batch consistency?

We work with audited manufacturing partners, provide Certificates of Analysis (CoA) where available, and can share quality documentation (e.g., specifications, lot traceability). Retained samples and structured change‑control processes help ensure consistency.

Do you provide technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data sheets (SDS)?

Yes—TDS and SDS are available for all stocked items. We can also provide application guidelines, handling advice, and starting-point formulations upon request.

Can you help with formulation support or troubleshooting?

Nordmann’s technical team consists of highly qualified professionals with expertise in both technical and commercial disciplines. We listen carefully to our customers’ needs and challenges, working closely alongside them to propose the most suitable solutions in areas such as raw‑material selection, dosage optimization, and process‑related improvements.

We also provide guidance on industry best practices and offer support on key performance aspects including dispersion stability, foam control, slip and mar resistance, levelling, adhesion, and corrosion protection.

Do you offer colour solutions and pigment dispersions for inks and coatings?

Yes. Nordmann supplies pigments, pigment preparations, and dispersions for solventborne, waterborne, and UV systems, and our team can advise on color strength, transparency, lightfastness, and migration/safety considerations.

What performance standards can your raw materials help me meet?

Depending on your system, we can support compliance with common performance targets such as high gloss/low gloss control, early water resistance, corrosion/chemical resistance, abrasion/scratch resistance, low odor/low VOC, rapid cure (UV/EB), and exterior durability.

Do you carry solutions for low‑VOC or VOC‑free coatings and inks?

Yes. We offer waterborne technologies, high‑solids binders, reactive diluents, and additive packages designed to reduce VOC while maintaining flow, film build, and workability.

What sustainable or bio‑based options are available?

Our portfolio includes bio‑based or mass‑balance feedstocks, low‑carbon raw materials, and additives designed for longer service life (durability). On request, we can share supplier sustainability statements and available certifications (e.g., ISCC PLUS for mass‑balance products, where applicable).

How do you handle regulatory compliance (e.g., REACH, CLP/GHS)?

We supply products registered or exempt under the relevant regulations and provide up‑to‑date SDS in compliance with REACH and CLP/GHS. We monitor evolving requirements (e.g., SVHC updates) and can support documentation for audits.

Are your materials suitable for printing inks used on food packaging?

We can recommend raw materials aligned with typical industry guidance (e.g., EuPIA guidelines and Good Manufacturing Practice). Final compliance depends on your formulation and end‑use; we provide supporting statements where available and advise migration‑sensitive design.

Do you offer solutions for UV/EB‑curable systems?

Yes—oligomers, monomers/reactive diluents, photoinitiators, and tailored additives (slip/mar agents, defoamers, wetting agents/dispersant, rheology modifiers) for UV‑curable inks, varnishes, and coatings, including high‑reactivity and low‑yellowing grades.

Can you suggest alternatives during supply disruptions or product discontinuations?

We routinely propose functional drop‑in or reformulation alternatives based on performance requirements, regulatory constraints, and target cost—to minimize qualification time.

What are typical lead times and delivery options?

Stock items generally ship quickly; made‑to‑order or specialty grades have longer lead times depending on supplier schedules and packaging. We coordinate consolidated shipments and provide delivery windows at quote/PO stage.

Which packaging sizes are available?

Options typically include small packs, pails, drums, IBCs, and bulk for selected items. We’ll confirm available packaging and any minimum order quantities (MOQs) with your request.

Do you provide samples for testing?

Yes—most items are available in lab or pilot quantities. Share your application details and we’ll arrange appropriate sample sizes and supporting documentation.

How do you support dispersion and stability in waterborne systems?

We supply tailored dispersants/wetting agents, defoamers, and rheology modifiers (waxes, associative, HEUR/HASE, or inorganic) and can guide pigment grinding steps and let‑down for stable viscosity and gloss.

Can you help optimize slip, matting, or surface properties?

Yes—through waxes, silica matting agents, silicone/fluorinated surface additives, and anti‑scratch/anti‑abrasion packages to tune coefficient of friction, sheen, and feel.

What about corrosion and chemical resistance in protective coatings?

We offer barrier pigments/fillers, anti‑corrosive packages, curing agents, and adhesion promoters (including silanes) to meet harsh‑environment requirements in primers and DTM systems.

Do you have solutions for digital and inkjet inks?

We support water‑based, solvent, and UV‑inkjet with dispersions, oligomers, photoinitiators, and specialty additives that enable low viscosity, good jetting stability, fast cure, and substrate wetting.

How do you address evolving regulations (e.g., PFAS, microplastics) in coatings/inks?

We monitor global regulatory trends and can propose compliant alternatives where feasible. We’ll flag potential risk areas early and provide regulatory statements from suppliers when available.

What current market trends should coatings & inks producers watch?

Strong themes include bio-based formulations, PFAS & solvent restrictions, decarbonization (low‑VOC, waterborne, powder), durability and corrosion protection, faster cure (UV/EB), migration‑safe packaging inks, and materials enabling circularity (reworkability, recyclability‑friendly formulations).

Do you offer product selection tools or a “product finder”?

Yes—share your substrate, system type (waterborne/solvent/UV), target properties, and regulatory needs; our team will shortlist suitable raw materials and provide TDS/SDS and sample options.

Can you assist with scale‑up from lab to production?

We can coordinate with manufacturing partners on mixing/dispersion guidance, defoamer and rheology windows, filtration considerations, and QA checkpoints to reduce first‑batch risk.

How do I request a quote or discuss a custom requirement?

Contact us with your application, target specs, annual volume, packaging preferences, delivery location, and any compliance constraints. We’ll propose options, lead times, and pricing—and support testing to qualify the final choice.
