MARFRAN.MED GLE – TPE-S for modern medical technology
Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE-S) are becoming increasingly important in medical technology, especially in the manufacture of medical tubing. With MARFRAN.MED GLE, MARFRAN presents a new generation of TPE-S that offers solvent weldability and numerous other advantages:
- Plasticizer-free: Unlike soft PVC, TPE-S does not require polar plasticizers such as DEHP, which are subject to regulatory scrutiny. This minimizes potential health risks. Many TPE-S can be formulated completely without any plasticizer (polar or not polar).
- Excellent biocompatibility: The MARFRAN.MED series was developed specifically for medical applications and meets the highest requirements for skin compatibility and toxicity.
- High sterilization resistance: The materials are compatible with common sterilization methods such as gamma radiation, ethylene oxide (EtO), and autoclaving—without impairing the material properties.
Proponents of soft PVC often point to its superior solvent weldability — a fast and economical method of joining hoses or components, for example.
With the new MARFRAN.MED GLE product series, MARFRAN now offers a modern, safe, and more environmentally friendly alternative. It combines the excellent kink resistance and solvent weldability (e.g., with cyclohexanone or THF) of soft PVC with the proven advantages of classic TPE-S.

All compounds are free of phthalates, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), PBB, and PBDE in accordance with European directives. The entire production chain is also PVC, latex, and silicone-free.
