Fluorescein

Fluorescein is a synthetic organic compound available as a dark orange/red powder soluble in water and alcohol. It is widely used in many biological research applications due to its intense fluorescence. In the pharmaceutical industry it is utilized in numerous diagnostic applications and medical procedures. For instance, it is used in angiography to map blood vessels in the eye, and in medication such as Fluoresoft to test for damaged cells on the cornea.
