"The chemical industry is the driving force behind the economy" Nordmann celebrates 111th anniversary / Changes in management / Further growth plans

Nordmann, an international leading company in chemical distribution, celebrates its 111th anniversary this year. In 1912, Hamburg entrepreneurs Eduard Nordmann and Fritz Rassmann decided to enter the rubber business. Today, Nordmann is an internationally operating chemical distributor offering raw materials and solutions for almost all industries. The company has its own production in Singapore, laboratories for cosmetics and food applications and is led by CEO Dr Gerd Bergmann and CFO Ulrich Cramer.

Thank you for 111 years of Nordmann

Ulrich Cramer joined Nordmann in his new position on 1 April. Most recently, he was CFO of a medium-sized, international group of companies in North Rhine-Westphalia. With the extension of the management board, Nordmann has set the foundation for shaping its expansive and ambitious growth course for the coming years. The 520 employees in 24 countries worldwide recently generated 620 million euros (2022). This means that the company has more than doubled its turnover in the last 10 years. Nordmann intends to grow further through regional expansion into new markets, the expansion of its product portfolio with existing and new suppliers, and through mergers and acquisitions. Just in April, Nordmann founded its subsidiary in the Netherlands – Nordmann BeNeLux B.V. –- to further develop the markets in the region.

In the industry, which is characterized by medium-sized companies in Germany, Nordmann is among the top 10 percent in terms of company size, turnover and growth. With a value of goods of 229 billion euros, Germany is the world champion in chemical and pharmaceutical exports and number three in production, behind China and the USA. (2022, source VCI)

Already in its fourth generation, Nordmann combines the philosophy of a family-owned company with the success of an international group. "Our employees' knowledge of supply chains for chemical raw materials, how they are produced, processed, stored and used, is our greatest asset," explains Dr Gerd Bergmann. "The chemical industry is the driving force behind the global economy. It holds solutions to the major challenges of our time – from nutrition and health to energy supply and climate change."

Ulrich Cramer adds: "For our ambitious growth plans, we need a modern and powerful organization. Nordmann therefore invests not only in its processes and IT infrastructure, but especially in its employees. Individual training and development opportunities, flexible working time models, family-friendly conditions, but also room for manoeuvre and local responsibility are essential for us, because our "local best approach" is our strength."

Irina Zschaler, CEO of Georg Nordmann Holding Aktiengesellschaft (GNH) confirms: "In 111 years, the family-owned Nordmann company has developed impressively and is today one of the important international players in its industry. Above all, our thanks go to the employees who have made this success possible over generations. In addition to safeguarding the economic future, the Nordmann family has always been committed to social responsibility towards its employees and society. This reliable consistency, combined with sustainably oriented, fair action, is the strong basis of our ambitious growth strategy for the coming decades." Today, the long-established Hamburg-based company sells more than 7,500 natural and chemical raw materials, additives, and special chemicals worldwide.

For Nordmann, sustainability involves ecological, economic and social responsibility in equal measure. Dr Gerd Bergmann: "We have committed ourselves to integrating the topic of sustainability into our long-term strategy – with a view to "People, Partnerships, Products and Performance". The basis for this is the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, but also the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), the Supply Chain Act and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), to which Nordmann is committed.
